The course is designed for healthcare providers who initiate and direct basic and advanced life support to the pediatric population. It will enhance skills in the evaluation and management of infant or child scenarios with compromised respiratory or cardiac status or cardiac arrest. Participants will actively engage in a series of simulated core cases designed to reinforce:* Identification and treatment of problems related to cardiac arrest scenarios for the child* Application of a systematic approach to assessment of the pediatric patient* Utilize the "evaluate-identify-intervene" sequence* Utilization of the PALS algorithms* Team dynamics for high-performance resuscitation.

Description

Participants will actively engage in several simulated core cases designed to reinforce:

  • Identification and treatment of problems related to cardiac arrest scenarios for the child
  • Application of a systematic approach to assessment of the pediatric patient
  • Utilize the "evaluate-identify-intervene" sequence
  • Utilization of the PALS algorithms
  • Team dynamics for high-performance resuscitation
  • Recognize the infant or child at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Utilize strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants & children
  • Demonstrate the cognitive & psychomotor skills necessary for resuscitating & stabilizing the infant or child in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest.


Prerequisites

  • Basic EKG knowledge and skills
  • Current AHA-issued BLS provider card
  • Successful completion of AHA HeartCode PALS Online Portion


What to do before the class

How to Access the HeartCode PALS Online Portion, Step-By-Step:

 

1) Enroll on the website. Once enrollment is approved, you will receive the online modules, within 24-48 hours Please (Check inbox, clutter & junk mail)

2) After completion of the online HeartCode PALS Online Portion, complete the "Course Survey"

3) Once the "Course Survey" is complete, print the "Certificate of Completion"

4) Please bring the printed copy of your certificate for course entry, your name must be visible

What to bring to the class

  • Stethoscope
  • RN License Number
  • Current AHA-issued BLS Provider Card
  • Printed AHA HeartCode PALS Online Portion certificate of completion
  • All course participants are expected to dress in appropriate clinical attire (i.e. scrubs) to participate in training scenarios
